Honey Walnuts (Gluten Free)
Walnuts
Ingredients
1 lb whole walnut halves
½ cup sugar
1 tablespoon honey
1/2 cup water
2 tbs olive oil
Instructions
Wash and rinse walnut with cold water and drain
Fill a large pot with water and add walnuts and bring to a boil. Cook for 7 minutes. The water will turn brown. Strain walnuts through a large strainer.
Fill the pot with water again and add the walnuts and boil for another 7 minutes. Strain and rinse the walnuts under cold water until the water runs clear.
Let the walnuts dry out for about 30 minutes in the strainer
Add sugar 1\2 cup water and honey to the same large pot and bring to a boil until all the sugar has dissolved. Add the walnuts and turn the heat down to medium and simmer while stirring continuously until the sugar water has coated the walnuts, about 7 minutes.
Strain out the walnuts and discard the leftover sugar water and let the walnuts dry out in the strainer.
In a bowl mix the sugar walnuts with honey and olive oil. Spread evenly on a large nonstick baking sheet.
Preheat the oven to 325°. Put the baking sheet with walnut in the middle rack and bake for 20-25 minutes. Walnuts should be crispy with light brownish color. Let them cool and store in an airtight container.
PS: You can also use Air Fryer. Place sugared coated walnut in one layer on the air fryer basket. Turn on 280 and cook for 15 minutes
